Maynard Archie Wood Jr., 72, of Charlottesville, passed away on Tuesday, August 17, 2010, after a long battle with cancer.
He was born in Charlottesville on January 28, 1938, to the late Maynard Archie Wood Sr. and Ethel Mae Sprouse Wood.
He was preceded in death by three of his sisters, Doris Pritchett, Daisy Samuels and Shirley Wood; and a sister-in-law, Evelyn Morris.
Maynard graduated from Miller School in 1957. He was employed by USI, A.O. Smith, Badger-Powhatan, Crouse Hinds, and Dettor, Edwards and Morris.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Evelyn Mae Morris Wood; his daughter, Donna Wood Thacker and her husband, Matthew, of Scottsville; his son, Jeffrey Maynard Wood and his wife, Megan, of Charlottesville; his twin granddaughters, Sophie Grace Wood and Delaney Noelle Wood, who he loved so much; three brothers, Robert "Buddy" Wood and his wife, Joan, Randy Wood and his wife, Becky, and William Wood and his wife, Carolyn; one sister, Jerry Elizabeth Proffit; his sisters-in-law, Margaret Martin and her husband, Willie, and Ann Hunter and her husband, Rick; his brother-in-law, Daniel Morris; many nieces and nephews; a wonderful cousin, Barbara Mitchell of North Carolina; and his great friends, Tom and Barbara Mize of Maryland.
The family expresses their grateful appreciation to Dr. Gordon Morris and the entire staff on the 7th floor of Martha Jefferson Hospital for their compassionate care.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, August 21, 2010, at the Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Roi Savaiinaea, Pastor Larry Hudson, and Mr. Bill Mills officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Friday, August 20, 2010, at Hill and Wood Funeral Home.
