Fred M. Kidd, Sr., 79, newspaperman and publisher of the Ionia Sentinel-Standard died Monday evening at his home in Ionia. He had been the editor and co-owner of the Ionia daily paper since 1913 when his father, the late General James H. Kidd, died. In 1919 he consolidated the city's two dailies into what is known as the Ionia Sentinel-Standard.

Born April 21, 1881, he made Ionia his home ever since and attended Ionia schools with the exception of a year and half when his parents moved to Detroit. He also attended the University of Michigan in 1902.

He is survived by his wife Lucy, a daughter Mrs. Jack L. Welch, and a son Fred M. Kidd Jr., both of Ionia. He had five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held today at the First Presbyterian church in Ionia at 2:30 p.m. with the Reverend Wilfred G. Sawyier officiating. Burial will be at Highland Park cemetery.
