Vina was passionate about local history and genealogy. She spent much of her free time volunteering in the community toward the restoration and preservation of historical sites. Vina was most recently involved with implementing the 100th year celebration of Bucoda. She was an active member of the Daughters of the Pioneers. She spent numerous hours on her own family's history and genealogy, which was a labor of love.
She is survived by her loving partner of 27 years Ronald (Bud) Yeager of Bucoda; her siblings James H. Matney of Napavine, WA and Lillian E. Bursiel of Spokane, WA; and her six children, Robert (Robbie) G. Smith of Centralia, WA, Gerald (Jerry) L. Smith of Trout Creek, MT, Peggy Sue (Smith) Dixson of Libby, MT, Randal (Randy) J. Johnston of Carson City, NV, Kelli J. O'Reilly of Centralia, WA, and John P. O'Reilly of Lacey, WA. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins all of whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thompson Henry Matney and Frances Bernice Matney and her siblings William W. Ward of Palmer, AK and Adron F. Ward of Idaho.
