Thomas Daniel McGrath, 80, of Charlottesville died on Monday, August 16, 2010 in a local hospital.

Born December 14, 1929 in Rochester, NY, he was the son of the late J. Harold McGrath and Julia Elizabeth McDonald McGrath. He was also preceded in death by his former wife, Barbara McGrath and a brother, William McGrath.

Thomas was a corporate accountant with Union Carbide for over thirty years and a graduate of the University of Western Ontario with a B. A. degree in Accounting. He retired from the U. S. Navy as a Commander after twenty years of service having served in the Korean War. He was a member of the Retired Officers Association, the Senior Center, Thomas Aquinas Church, and active with the Republican National Committee.

Surviving him are a daughter, Sally Ann Miller of Charlottesville; a son, Peter Joseph McGrath and his wife, Kazuko, of San Francisco, CA; three granddaughters, Vanessa Lynn Miller of Charlottesville, Brittany Michelle Miller of Harrisonburg, and Danielle Rose Miller of Woodbridge; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy "Dot" McGrath of Rochester, NY.

A memorial mass is being held at 2:30 pm on Friday, August 20, 2010 in the St. Thomas Aquinas Church with Father Stephen Alcott celebrating.
