HAMPTON - Abraham L. Howell, 75, peacefully passed away on Aug. 13, 2010.
He was born in Holland, Va., on July 13, 1935, to the late Algie T. Howell Sr. and Annie Boone Howell. He was a retired carpenter who never really retired. He was well known throughout the state for his carpentry and construction work on many of the buildings and bridges throughout the state and took great pride in his work.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Julia Keene Howell.
Abraham leaves to cherish his memory six children, Orville Howell of Newport News, Va., Debra Watford (Grover Jr.) of Colerain, N.C., Lorre' Gonzalez (Arcadio) of Orlando, Fla., Michelle Salmon (Devon) of Hampton, Va., Gary Howell of Newport News, Va., and Monica Howell of Atlanta, Ga.; one brother, Delegate Algie T. Howell Jr. (Leeser) of Norfolk; three sisters, Mae Caldwell of Queens, N.Y., Dorothy Boone of Suffolk, Va., and Dora Pruden of Gates, N.C.; 15 grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be held at noon, Aug. 21, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2811 Victoria Blvd., Hampton, VA. Interment will be in Hampton Memorial Gardens, 155 Butler Farm Rd., Hampton, VA. Family and friends will assemble by 11 a.m. at 505 Pennsylvania Avenue, Hampton, to procession to the Kingdom Hall. A viewing will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today, Aug. 20, at Smith Brothers Funeral Home, 545 E. Mercury Blvd., Hampton – ph: 723-4117.
