Daniel is buried near to his parents in the Dimondale Cemetery in Dimondale, Michigan. His headstone reads:

From Helen Smith:

(Daniel) Peter Ashley died at the state hospital at Kalamazoo. The body was brought to the Edwards Funeral Home where it remained until Friday morning when it was taken to the Ashley residence.

Mr. Ashley had been in poor health for some time. He was a famer.

He is survived by the widow, Della Ashley; 1 son, Glenn Ashley of Washington D.C., 9 grandchildren, 1 sister, Mrs. Alice Bates of Dimondale, besides many other relatives.
The Knights Templars of Lansing had charge of the funeral which was held from the Methodist Church, Friday afternoon.

Helen also reports:

I was told that Daniel was good friends with R.E. Olds, and he tried to convince him to go into the car business with him. Daniel turned R.E. Olds down!

The obituary says Peter was a farmer, but relatives have said he was a carpenter-cabinet maker.
