Alwin "Dutch" Holst, 87, of Shacksbush Road, Bernhards Bay, died Saturday in St. Joseph's Hospital after a brief illness.

A native of Buffalo, Mr. Holst lived in Bernhards Bay for 80 years. He was a machinst for the L.C. Smith Company in Syracuse for 13 years and retired in 1968 from the Tagmatic Corporation of Syracuse after eight years of service.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and received two bronze stars for his participation in the Ruhr Valley and Central Europe Operations. Mr. Holst was a member of the Oswego County Chapter of the Cooperative Extension.

Surviving are a son, Robert of Bernhards Bay; a brother, Walter of Kirkville; a sister, Margaret Holst of Jamesville; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Watson Funeral Home, 206 S. Main St., Central Square, the Rev. Wayne Hobbes officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Bernhards Bay.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
