He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Franklin and Jessie Strickland Farrell, his wife Jean McGouirk Farrell, one brother Stanley Farrell, four sisters Ethel Robbins, Mary Dobbs, Elizabeth Wyatt and Esther McKinstry. James is survived by one son, Theodore McGouirk (Carol) Farrell, two daughters, Ann Farrell (Nick) Humble and Dorothy Farrell (Nelson) Ford; one brother, George Farrell; four grandchildren Jennifer F. Glaze, James F. Ford "Jim", Britton T. Farrell and Grant T. Farrell, four great grandchildren Leah Glaze, Lydia Glaze, Naphtali Ford and Bauer Ford and nieces and nephews.
James was a graduate of West End High School and was a part of the tennis team; he was also a member of the Birmingham Baronets Social Club, and a WW II veteran. He received several Technical Degrees from U.A.B; he was a longtime and active member of Central Park Baptist Church. James enjoyed fishing and Alabama football.
Services will be Saturday August 21, 2010 at 1:00pm at Ridout's Elmwood Chapel, with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Central Park Christian School, 1900 43rd St., Ensley, AL 35208.
