My great-grandfather was born Friedrich Ludwig Fischer in Germany,came to the US June 19, 1854 with his father, mother and three siblings. They lived in Blue Island, Cook County, Illinois, then he went out west and finally to Pittsburgh Pa.. He first married Mary Klauss, she died in 1885. A daughter had died during childbirth. He then married Martha Lena Johanna Nielander on May 5, 1887. They had 9 children, 8 survived to adulthood. His occupation was building contractor. He and Martha celebrated their 50th wedding anniversity at the home he built for his family at 1148 S. Negley Avenue in Pittsburgh. he died September 3, 1938 in Pittsburgh.
