Emma was the daughter of Stephen Scotten Roberts and Emma Louise Funk. Emma's mother died as a result of childbirth, the following year Stephen married Lydia Ann Bainter. Around 1874 the family left Hancock county, Illinois for Saline, Dorchester Co., Nebraska. In Nebraska Emma met Samuel Edward Roberts, they were married 10/21/1877. They had 7 children Anyse Clara, William Edward, Clarence Conrad, Carl Virgil, Louise Bertha, Eva Pearl, Arthur Mc Kinley. Before 1910 the family moved to Selma, California.
