Lucy Meriwether Johnson was the daughter of Isaac Winston Johnson (~1789-?) and Sara Ann Glenn (~1807–?). Sara's mother was D. Ann Meriwether (17 Dec 1784–?) who married William Glenn.

Lucy married her second cousin, James Oliver Meriwether, on 2 Oct 1851 in Oglethorpe County, George; they were the parents of eight known children.

Mrs. J. O. Merriwether, Sr., Dead

Mrs. Lucy Johnson Merriwether, wife of Col. J. O. Merriwether, departed this life, Saturday, July 9th, 1910 at ten o'clock. Sunday morning Pastor A. T. Cinnamond of the Baptist church conducted her funeral services at the family residence on Main street. The remains were entered at Bethesda cemetery.

Mrs. Merriwether was born in Georgia in 1833. She was married to Jas. O. Merriwether in 1851 and in the same year they removed to Mississippi and settled on a large plantation a few miles from where Senatobia was subsequently built. They later removed to Senatobia and have been residents here for twenty-five years.

She united with the Baptist church when about fourteen years of age, later transferring her membership here. She was President of the Ladies Aid Society and took an active part in all church work so long as her health permitted.

She was the mother of eight children, five of whom survive her: Mrs J. T. Gabbert and J. O. Merriwether, Jr., of this place, Mrs Travis Taylor and Mrs N. R. Sledge of Como, and Thos. Meriwether of Memphis. She is also survived by twenty-one grand children and six great grand children, and by her husband.
