Mexican Campaign Medal of Honor Recipient. Served in the United States Navy as a Lieutenant during the 1914 Vera Cruz, Mexico Campaign. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery on April 22, 1914. His citation reads "For distinguished conduct in battle, engagement of Vera Cruz. During the second day's fighting the service performed by him was eminent and conspicuous. He was conspicuous for the skillful handling of his company under heavy rifle and machine gun fire, for which conduct he was commended by his battalion commander". His Medal was issued on December 4, 1915. He was a 1904 graduate of the USNA, and commanded various warships in between the World Wars, most notably the ill-fated battleship "USS Oklahoma" from 1937 to 1939. He eventually rose to the rank of Rear-Admiral, U.S. Navy.
