Memphis Democrat, January 15, 1948: Soldier Funeral Sunday. Funeral services for Pvt. Claude E. Phillips, who died overseas, were conducted at the Christian church in Memphis Sunday afternoon by the pastor Rev. G. L. Eaton, and interment was in the Memphis cemetery.

Members of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion attended the funeral in a body. Claude E. Phillips was a son of Thomas J. and Hannah Phillips. He was born in Scotland county, Missouri, April 13 1912. He was a soldier in the United States Army, and lost his life in battle in Belgium, December 17, 1944.

He has four brothers, Vernie of Greensburg, Ambros of Monmouth, Ill; Wade of California and Mallie of Rutledge; one sister, Mrs. Lela Stone of Baring.

His body, after resting in a Government cemetery in Belgium was brought to the U.S. to find its final resting place in the land that he loved and for which he died.
