Florence Schribner was the daughter of Gilbert Hilton Schribner and Sarah Woodbury Pettingill.

Florence and her father were on a trip to Nicaragua when the ship wrecked leaving the passengers stranded on a desert island. One of those passengers was a civil engineer whose skills helped the shipwrecked passengers to obtain fresh water and survive until they were rescued.

That civil engineer was Florence's future husband, David McNeely Knox Stauffer.

Florence Schribner and David McNeely Knox Stauffer married on 19 Apr 1892.

They were the parents of two children both of whom died young: Florence d. 24 May 1895 and David McNeely Knox Stauffer, Jr. b. 3 Jun 1903 d. 10 Jul 1903.67y
