John was the oldest son of David Jenkins, the ironmaster. He was called John Jr. to distinguish him from his uncle John in the militia records. John served as a Private in the 4th Co., 5th Battalion, under Captain Joseph Jenkins. He was killed accidentally while riding horseback.
