Part of the Fairview Enterprise obituary:

Many, many things could be said of Alonzo and his life in the community, the town, his church. He did things quietly and easily and without wanting thanks or praise. Just ask Lonnie and he would do it. His going leaves a vacant spot in the community that won't easily be filled and perhaps never will be. He had the respect of the people of the community and town and the manner in which he lived is reflected in his three sons and daughter. He was definitely the head of the family, was honored and respected.

Alonzo and his wife Ruthie had the privilege of celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary and they had the privilege of traveling about the United States and several countries.

Alonzo S. Lambertson was born December 25, 1909 in Fairview, the son of W.P. and Floy Thompson Lambertson. He attended Fairview schools, graduating from Fairview High School in 1927. He was a 1931 graduate of Kansas State, where he was a member of the Farm House Fraternity, Alpha Zeta agriculture honor society, Men's Glee Club and the varsity swim team.

Mr. Lambertson lived for a brief period in Washington, D.C. following his graduation from Kansas State, during which he operated heavy equipment in the construction of Bolling Field, and in his spare time, learned to fly. He returned to Fairview in 1932 to take up farming, an occupation he pursued for the next six decades. On September 6,1936, he married Anna Ruth Shattuck of Ashland, Kansas. They are the parents of four children.

Mr. Lambertson was active in the affairs of Fairview and Brown County. He was for many years a member of the High School Board of Education, and served several terms as its chairman. He was co-chairman of the organizing committee of the Fairview Centennial Celebration in 1986. Mr. Lambertson was an early convert to modern soil conservation practices, building his first terraces in the mid-1930's. He was a member of the board of the Walnut Creek Watershed District No. 1 almost from its inception, and continued in that capacity until his death.

Mr. Lambertson was devoted to the Delaware Baptist Church. His grandfather was one of its co-founders, and he became a member in 1916. Mr. Lambertson was a member of the choir for almost sixty years. He sang for literally hundreds of weddings and funerals over the years, almost always accompanied by Ruth, most recently only four months ago.

Mr. Lambertson is survived by his wife, Ruth; his four children, William of Barrington, IL. David, of Alexandria, VA, Giles of Raleigh, NC, and Floy Shaeffer of Barrington, IL; twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren; his sister, Edwina Copeland of Salinas, CA; and his brother, Milan, of Ottawa, KS. He was preceded in death by his sister Elise Reynolds of Hiawatha.
