James Cowan Ownby, Kingsport, Tenn. died of an apparent heart attack. Born in Newport, Tenn. He had been a resident of Kingsport since 1948. He was a WW2 Army Veteran and fought in the Battle of The Buldge in 1943 where he suffered frozen feet and several months later received an honorable discharge.

He was a retired chemist from Tennessee Eastman Kodak Co. Ownby was a member of St.Matthew United Methodist Church, American Legion Hamond Post #3, Charles DeWitt Byrd Post #3382 of the VFW, Kingsport Moose Lodge #972 and Elks Lodge #1833.

Surviving are his wife Janice Andrews Ownby, Kingsport; two daughters, Anne Arehart, Knoxville,and Alice Wise, West Lafayette, Ind.; one son, John Ownby, Nashville; two grandchildren; and one sister, Hazel Driskill, Maryland,Tenn.

Graveside services were held at Union Cemetery,Newport. Memorial worship services were held next day at St. Matthew United Methodist Church with Rev. David Lewis officiating.
