George Robert "Bob" Bechman, 92, of Franklin passed away Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010, at Johnson Mem­orial Hospital in Franklin.

He was born Aug. 1, 1918, in Franklin to George Edward Bechman and Bonnie (Wright) Bechman. He married Virginia F. (Housefield) Bechman on Feb. 20, 1945, at the parsonage of Community Congregational Church in Franklin. She survives.

He was a graduate of Franklin High School and a member of Franklin Memorial Christian Church and had been a longtime member of Community Congregat­ional Church, where he had served as a deacon.

Mr. Bechman was a lifelong farmer in Johnson County and had served as treasurer and a member of the board of the Johnson County Farm Bureau and also was a past board member of the Miami Valley Milk Producers. He was a World War II Pearl Harbor U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Pacific Theater. He received two Bronze Stars.

He was a member of Franklin American Legion Post 205.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia F. (Housefield) Bechman of Franklin; two sons, Thomas J. Bechman and daughter-in-law Carla of Franklin, and David G. Bechman and daughter-in-law Janet of West Lafayette; six grandchildren, Allison Bechman of Griffin, Ga., Ashley Bechman, Daniel Bechman and Kayla Bechman, all of Franklin, and Ann Bechman and John Bechman, both of West Lafayette; one great-grandchild, Graham Curtis, and a brother, Roy E. Bechman of Franklin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Martha Wilds.

The Rev. Larry McAdams will conduct a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 S. Morton St. (U.S. 31 South) in Franklin. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary, where Pearl Harbor Veterans Association will conduct a service at 8 p.m. Burial with full military honors will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.
