Buford Adams was the youngest of two sons born to the marriage of Chester E. Adams and Daisy Blanche Gerrard Adams. He married Stella Mae Eason (1916-1998) on July 23, 1933. The bride was only 16 years old. Their only child, a daughter, Daisy Lee, was born in 1936. The couple was divorced a few years later and Buford was married briefly for the second time but that wife's name is lost to history. His third wife, the former Berneada Cranford, gave him a son, Wayne. Buford's last marriage was to Floy Elizabeth (Hayes) McCaffity, a widow, who survived him.

Buford proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II, seeing action in the Pacific Theatre.
