Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Wilhelm and Emma Wurster Strauss.
Prior to his retirement, he was assistant director of engineering (mechanical) for Einstein Medical Center, Northern Division.
Roland was an avid scuba diver and instructor. He was a member and past president of the former Philadelphia Depth Chargers Scuba Diving Club and Middle Atlantic Underwater Council.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Ann Hancs of Philadelphia; two sons, Roland W. Strauss Jr. of Hatboro and George Erik Strauss of Philadelphia; 13 grandchildren; and a brother, Erik Strauss of Tennessee.
