Nelda Wynn Davis of West Chester

Nelda Wynn Davis, 96, of West Chester, died peacefully at home on Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010.
She married her childhood sweetheart, the late Boyd C. Davis, in 1939, and shared 67 loving years.
Born in 1913 in West Chester, she was the only child of the late Fisher Brooke Wynn and Maud Mercer Wynn.
Nelda was a lifelong resident of West Chester.
She graduated from West Chester High School, where she was a varsity cheerleader. She graduated from West Chester State Teacher College with a degree in physical education and briefly taught at Westtown School.
She was a member of the West Chester New Century Club and the West Chester Golf & Country Club.
Nelda and Boyd were recognized by the West Chester United Methodist Church as the couple who had been members the longest.
In 1949 Nelda and Boyd purchased a beachfront cottage in Manasquan, N.J., and enjoyed vacationing there for more than 50 years with many long-term friends.
She was a member of the Manasquan River Yacht Club and the Manasquan Beach Improvement Association, where her late husband and son were trustees.
She and her late husband traveled together all over the United States, Canada and the rest of the world.
Nelda enjoyed her garden and especially her four dobermans, all named Zeppy.
Nelda and Boyd were very proud that all three of their children graduated from Dickinson College in Carlisle.
She is survived by her sons, Boyd C. Davis Jr., sole caregiver at home, and Brooke W. Davis; and daughter, Nelda Jane Helmstaedter. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Brooke, Amanda, Kirk and Leslie; and a great-grandson, Zack.
Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral service at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 26, at the DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith & Boyd Funeral Home Inc., 410 N. Church St., West Chester, 610-696-1181, www.DellaFH.com.
Interment will be in Bradford Cemetery, West Chester.
Visitation is from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
