Susannah Sokinny Hendricks was a full-blood Cherokee born in the state of Georgia and was from the Hightower Dist. Cherokee Nation East, GA. She married William H. Hendricks Sr. in Georgia and had nine children who were born in the state of Georgia (the Old Cherokee Nation): James R., Anna "Annie", Jane, Margaret, John, Nancy, Susannah "Susan", Catherine, William H. Jr.; and four children born in the Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory (Oklahoma): Willis, Franklin, Elizabeth, and Thomas.

In 1832 Susannah and William Sr. migrated to the Cherokee Nation West; they settled and owned property in the Woodall area southwest of Tahlequah, OK. Susannah and William H. Hendricks are the oldest burials in Hendricks--thus the cemetery bears their name.
