RITES TUESDAY FOR LONGTIME BAYTOWN MAN

Services for Tom Martin Clayton, 69, of 2919 Ferry Road, who lived in Baytown 41 years, will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Bayou Methodist Church with the Revs. Elza Love, Clyde Thomas and Roy Felder officiating.

Clayton died thursday at his cabin near Huntington after a brief illness.

His body was found Saturday on a sofa bed by Paul Clark of Huntington, who was called by his family when Clayton did not return to Baytown on schedule.

According to this family, a note written at 10 a.m. Thursday indicated he felt he was having a heart attack.

Clayton was a member of Cedar Bayou Masonic Lodge and Cedar Bayou Methodist Church.

He worked 35 years at Exxon's Baytown Refinery and since his retirement in 1960 as chief operator, he had spent much time raising cattle on his land near Huntington.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Inez Clayton of Baytown, who retired from Sears Baytown store after working there 23 years.

His brother, Al Clayton, is a former Baytown mayor and city councilman.

Other survivors are two sons, Tommy and Shelly Clayton, both of Baytown; two daughters, Pat Deckert of Deer Park and Carolyn Waugh of Baytown; and another brother, Luke clayton of Hughes, Ark.

He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Walter Lehde, O. O. Fulmer, J. L Dewees, A. F. Hennke, Fred O'Hagan, A. L. Rieck, A. W. Schneider and Jack Mullins.

Honary pallbearers will be members of the Men's Wesley Class and the Methodist Men's Fellowship of Cedar Bayou Methodist Church and Masons of Cedar Bayou Lodge.

Burial will be in Cedar Bayou Masonic Cemetery.

Arrangements are under direction of Earthman Funeral Home.
