James Ward Beadle was born on a farm 15 miles above Louisville, Kentucky in Jefferson County. His family moved to Clark County, Indiana, around 1820, when James was 14 years old. James moved back to the original farm in Kentucky around 1830, and was married in Kentucky to Elizabeth Bright in 1831. Shortly after his marriage he moved to Clark County, Indiana, and then moved to the northern part of Parke County, Indiana, in February 1837. James and Elizabeth had 4 daughters and 5 sons. In 1874 James was living on a 240 acre farm on Sections 2 and 11 in Adams Township, Parke County, Indiana. Janes served 2 terms as Parke County Sheriff from 1849 (elected 1848) - 1853.
