Henry Robert Rauber passed away Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010, at the age of 94.

He was the beloved husband of 72 years to Mae Kahl Rauber; father of Darryl, Ronald and Gary Rauber; son of the late Wilhelmina and Henry Rauber; brother of the late Frank, Marie, Adele, Elvira and John; and grandfather of five, one deceased. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was a native of New Orleans where he was deputy director of administration for the Port of New Orleans and retired after 50 years of service. He retired as a lieutenant colonel for the Army Reserve and was a resident of Covington for the past 25 years.

Rauber was the first elected employee member of the Louisiana Civil Service Commission and was a recipient of the Charles E. Dunbar, Jr. Career Service Award. He was past president of the 377th Transportation Terminal Command Chapter Reserve Officers Assoc. and a longtime member and past chairman of the Delta Safety Society. He was past president of the Louisiana Chapter of the American Society for Training and Development, Veterans of Safety and the Louisiana Chapter of the International Personnel Management Assoc. He was also a board member of numerous other personnel and safety organizations.

A funeral Mass was held Monday at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, Covington. Interment was in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, make donations to Concerned Care Home Health and Hospice, 20081 Hwy. 36, Covington, LA 70433.
