Educated at Davidson College, NC and Columbia Theological Seminary, SC. Licensed by Harmony Presbytery, SC. October 1858. Received into Fayetteville Presbytery, NC April 1859. Served the churches of Cypress, Long Street, Sandy Grove, Galatia, and McPherson each for long periods: was also Pastor of the same people in China Grove and The Church of The Covenant for 53 years. Chaplain of the 27th NC Regiment and Camp No. 852 UCV.
He was modest and gentle, a brave defender of the faith, a good citizen, a devoted Pastor, an affectionate Husband, and a loving Father and a humble, faithful servant of the Master.
