INDIAN ORCHARD, Mass. - Sandra J. Nelson-Kachon, 64, of Enfield Street, went to be with the Lord on July 27, 2005. Born in Norwich, CT, the daughter of John and Dorothy (Smith) Reach, Sandra was a resident of Westfield before moving to Indian Orchard. Sandra was employed by the City of Springfield as a teacher, first at Indian Orchard Elementary School and then at John F. Kennedy Middle School. She was a member of the Springfield Education Association, the Massachusetts Teachers Association, the National Education Association, the American Legion Auxiliary Post 270,the Russell V.F.W. Post 6645, where she served as past president and the Marine Corps Women's Auxiliary of Westfield where she also served as past president. A prominent pillar of the community as a teacher in the Springfield schools for 41 years, she will be missed by many children, both young and old. Sandra leaves her husband, Michael E. Kachon, two daughters, Sabrina J. Mailhes and her husband Robert E. Mailhes of Fort Walton Beach, FL and Amy J. Nester and her husband Jay P. Nester of Westfield, MA; three brothers, John, Terry and Gary Reach all of Birmingham, AL; and five grandchildren, Shauntell J. and Jeremiah E. Mailhes of Fort Walton Beach and Myranda J., James B., and Sierra J. Nestor of Westfield. The funeral service will be held Saturday at 3:30 pm at Nowak Funeral and Cremation Services, 15 Ludlow Avenue, Indian Orchard (at the Ludlow bridge). A calling hour will be held Saturday from 2:30 to 3:30 pm. Inurnment will be in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery on Tuesday, August 2, 2005 at 1:00 pm.
