CHARLES H. BEDFORD, 85, of Canton RD 1 (E. Canton) died Thursday, Aug. 23, 1984 at the Dar Way Nursing Home, Estella, Sullivan County, Pa. Mr. Bedford was born Dec. 7, 1896 in Forksville, Sullivan County, Pa., a son of U. Grant and Sara Brackman Bedford. He retired from diary farming in 1956 and in 1963 retired from teaching after 40 years in the profession. He taught for the Towanda Area School District and the Monroe-Franklin Elementary School in Powell. Mr. Bedford was a member of the E. Canton United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school there for many years. He was a 4-H leader for 35 years. He was a former treasurer and member of the Rural Brotherhood and organized many talent shows in the area, with the proceeds being donated to needy individuals. He is survived by his wife, the former Hazel Rogers, whom he married on June 22, 1926: also two daughters, Mrs. Frank (Joey) Herman, Jr. of Canton RD 2 and Mrs. Morris (Erdean) Brown of Towanda RD 4; two sons, Dean Bedford of Canton RD 1 (twin of Erdean) and John H. (Jack) Bedford of Canton RD 1: 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Mark Bedford, a resident of the Dar-way Nursing Home and Fred Bedford of Sun City, Arizona. He was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Darla Bedford, on April 10, 1977 and Barbara Brown in 1983. Friends may call at the Morse-Kleese Funeral Home Saturday from 7-9 p.m. The funeral and committal service will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. from the funeral home with the Rev. Mercy Kasambira, his pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the E. Canton Cemetery. Donations may be directed to the Canton Community Nursing Service of the E. Canton United Methodist Church memorial fund in Mr. Bedford's memory.
