PETERSBURG- C. Robert Throckmorton, 83, of Petersburg, passed away Thursday, August 26, 2010 at 1:30 am at Memorial Medical Center. He was born on December 30, 1926 in Strasburg, IL to Charles Otto and Ruth Kircher Throckmorton. He married F. Irene Creighton on May 22, 1948.

He is survived by two sons, Robert L. (Paula) Throckmorton, and Chris Randall (Jan) Throckmorton, all of Petersburg; seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

His wife preceded him in death.

Mr. Throckmorton graduated from Coyne Electrical and Radio School. He also received a degree in management at Wittenberg University. He worked for 26 years as the production manager for Sangamo Electric Company. He also worked for 10 years as the production manager for Correctional Industries for State of Illinois.

He was in the US Navy for 10 years, serving as an EM3 on the U.S.S. Cape Esprence in the Pacific Theater during WWII. This ship received two battle stars for flying planes back and forth from Okinawa and Iwo Jima. He then served a year in the U.S. Air Force.

He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church in Petersburg, and had served as an elder. He was a board member of the Petersburg Lake Association for 35 years.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 29, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at Central Presbyterian Church in Petersburg. Pastor Ed Loper will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral services. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
