William J. Rizzo, 88 of Fort Lauderdale, passed away on August 25, 2010. Born and raised in Revere, MA., where he met the love of his life Dolly at the age of 12. They were married for 60 years and had 4 children. They resided in Braintree, MA before relocating to Ft. Lauderdale in 1972.
Bill served as a Sergeant in the Army at age 17 with Company E, 2nd Battalion, 182nd Americal Division during WWII in the South Pacific. His career was with the Federal Government as a Meat Inspector.
He was a leader involved in voluminous organizations, including Past Grand Night, Knights of Columbus, Animal Inspector, Alhambra, President of the Striker's Booster Club, Head Usher at St. Sebastian Church and many others.
His true passion was coaching the Special Olympics. His love and passion for the kids he coached was insurmountable.
Preceded by wife Dolly, daughter Nancy, he is survived by Sister Olga Adamo and Children, Patricia (Richard) Balboni, William (Susan) Rizzo, Dorothy Egdahl. Papa to : Melissa, Holly, Leigh Ann, Richard, Jennifer, Courtney, Christopher and Samantha. Great-Papa to Allison, Danielle, Kimberly, Mckenzie, Christina and Jayden.
The family willl receive vistors on Sunday, August 29 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Fred Hunter Funeral Home, 718 S. Federal Hwy., Ft Lauderdale. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, August 30 at 11 a.m. at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 2000 Marietta Dr., Ft. Lauderdale.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made in Bill's name to the Special Olympics, 1915 Don Wickham Drive, Clermont, FL 34711.
