His parents are both buried in/or near Elmira, New York
James and Alwida Edsall were homesteaders in Hutchinson, Kansas when they adopted Norman and Elizabeth Reynolds. Norman & Elizabeth's mother, Sarah Virginia (Eckley) Reynolds died from complications after the birth of her 3rd child, Jeannie on February 28, 1879. Jeannie was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Brainerd within 6 weeks after Sarah died.
Their father, Thomas Jefferson Reynolds was also in poor health. His last act of love for the two older children was to find someone who would adopt both children so that they could stay together. He found that special couple in James and Alwida Edsall.
James and Alwida Edsall adopted Norman and Elizabeth (Bessie) on August 2, 1879. Their father Thomas died on August 7, 1879.
James and Alwida later moved to Greenville, Mi where they lived until they died.
