RICH. HANSEN DROPPED DEAD THIS MORNING
Retired Sailor And Carpenter, Single, Stricken By Heart Attack
Richard Hansen, 83, retired sailor and carpenter, dropped dead this morning at
the foot of the stairs leading to his boarding house at 710 Chicago street. He
was just returning to his room from the public library, where he had taken out
a book, when he was stricken with a heart attack.
The body was found by M. Dennis, a fellow roomer at the place and he notified
the police who in turn called Coroner A.F. Stueck. The latter, on examining the
body, decided that there would be no inquest. The body was removed to the
Vogelsang funeral home.
On the body was found a wallet containing $20 and a gold watch.
The deceased, who had been living a retired life for a number of years, was born
in Norway 83 years ago and came to this country with his parents when a small
boy. He took up sailing and shipped on a number of boats out of this port in the
boom days of the sailing craft. Later he took up the carpenter trade and followed
that.
Mr. Hansen never married. He is survived by a brother, Edgar E. Hansen Sr., of
this city and a sister Mrs. Hoverson of Milaukee.
Definite time of the funeral was not set this afternoon but burial will be from
the Vogelsang funeral home either Friday or Saturday afternoon.
