In NY, William Henry Neff was the first of 5 sons born to Brooklyn, NY Shipmaster, William Wallace Neff (b. Connecticut 1829) and Annie Elizabeth Dennigan/Donnigan (various spellings).
The July 1860 census lists William Henry as 4 months old. Apparently, the 1867 death certificate's birth date is incorrect. So, too, is the birthdate on his headstone but... Going by incorrect paper records who would have known he was older.
Early in his life, William Henry worked as a butcher and clerk, eventually becoming a carpenter.
His Mother, Annie Elizabeth Neff died in 1896. Sometime, within the 2 yrs following her death, he and his Father, William Wallace Neff, move to Haskell, NJ? WHY?? Was it to work on the housing being built for the Lafland Rand Powder Works? Ringwood Manor and or Ringwood Company housing?
They met the William & Maria/Marie Caywood family.
In June 12, 1898, he married Mary Caywood. She was the daughter of William Caywood and Maria Miller Caywood nee Titus ... all of Pompton Township, NJ. They obtained Haskell acreage from Mary's parents.
(The farm acreage was self-sustaining until the Depression. Occupiers of homes built for family and rentals could not pay rents and all was lost. Today, all the Caywood/Neff acreage is occupied by a CVS Pharmacy, U.S. Post Office, Convenience Store, Lantern Restaurant and Houses. The roads on either side, which were created by Mary's second husband, Horace Mabee, are no longer their original names. Mabee Lane is now Arcola Pl. Presser St. is now First Ave. )
William Henry and Mary had one child, Maria Anna Amelia Neff who was born at Ringwood Junction, NJ, Oct. 3-4, 1899.
Sometime after 1904, following Mary's divorce from William Henry, he lived in Brooklyn and then moved to Hyde Park, NY.
Here, he met Myrtle Elmyra Palmateer. They married on Oct. 7, 1920. After 19 years of this second marriage, William died of Coronary Thrombosis.
His 1st wife Mary, would survive him until Dec. 7, 1939. His second wife Myrtle would also survive him. As per Soc. Sec., Myrtle b. 3/4/1882 & d. July 1972 in Hyde Park, NY.
Having contracted pneumonia, on Jan. 29, 1929, his only child, Marie, as she was often called, predeceased her Father. Did he know???
Married at Pompton Lakes, NJ to Joseph F. Farrell on May 23, 1915, Marie had given birth to Theodore Edward Farrell, 1916, and Francis Horace Farrell, 1921. In 1925, 4 years after the death of Joseph Farrell, (He was a brakeman on the Pennsylvania Railroad and was killed on the job 10/16/1921. His son, Francis was 6 months old) Marie would marry Frederick Schupp and give birth to Mary Ethel Schupp, 1926.
Although he may never have met them, these three grandchildren survived William Henry Neff.
He was predeceased by his brother George W.Neff. Still living was brother Edwin Murray Neff. Brother, Charles Wallace Neff, died May 21, 1945. Info. about youngest brother, John C. Neff is yet to be found.
Funeral arrangements were by the Henry Grube Funeral Home, Rhinebeck, NY. Interment at East Park Cemetery/ Union Cemetery just outside the village of Hyde Park, NY in, perhaps, the "old section".

Am still looking for a concrete link to Miner Neff because your brother, Edwin, had the same name as Miner's son, Edwin Murray Neff. Your Father, you and your brothers must be first (or quite close) cousins of Miner. I'm thinking that Miner's brother, William, was your grandfather. There isn't much info. abt. William so... He very well could have been your Grandfather-the father of your father who was William Wallace Neff.
