Sandra L. (Nemeth) Pettengill, 53, a resident of East Longmeadow, Mass., for the past fifteen years and formerly of Springfield, died early Thursday evening at Baystate Medical Center. She was born in Astoria, New York, the daughter of the late Ernest and Antena (Shatos) Nemeth. Sandra was educated from the New Salem, MA School System and was a graduate of New Salem Academy Class of 1968. She was employed by the United States Postal Service for more than 25 years retiring from the bulk mail center located in Indian Orchard section of Springfield in April of 2001. Sandra served with the United States Army Medical Corpsman during the Vietnam War and was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal. She was a member of the Mail handlers Local # 301 Boston, and leaves her companion, Christopher J. Miller of East Longmeadow, one daughter, Monica Pettengill of Springfield, one brother, Ernest J. Nemeth of Ludlow, one sister, Roxanne H. Nemeth, two granddaughters, Ashley and Samantha as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was the mother of the late George A. Pettengill who died in March of 1994 and sister of the late Margaret Vinsant who died in February of 1994. Funeral services will be held Monday evening at 8:15 PM at Sampson's Chapel of the Acres, 21 Tinkham Rd., Springfield, with Rites of Committal held Tuesday morning at 10:00 AM in the Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery of Agawam. Calling hours at the Chapel of the Acres funeral home will precede the funeral service on Monday from 5-8 PM. Contributions in her memory may be directed to the Lupus Foundation of America CT Chapter, 97 South St., Suite 110, West Hartford, CT 06110 - 1960.
