Mrs. Ireland died at her home in Lawton, Oklahoma on Friday, December 23, 2005. She was born on August 30, 1916 in Comanche, Oklahoma to E. Gates Sr. and Bertha (Brewer) McPhail. She grew up in Stephens County and graduated from Comanche Public Schools, continuing her education at the Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, Oklahoma.

She married Hayden Clarence Ireland on June 10, 1939 in El Reno, Oklahoma. They moved to Lawton in 1941 and opened M&D Motor Freight Lines. She, later, worked for E.J. Leverett and J.T. Neal Insurance Agencies. She served as president of Insurance Women of Lawton and was active in business auxillary and service organizations throughout Comanche County. She was a longstanding member of First Baptist Church and in recent years attended Letitia Baptist Church.

She is survived by her two sons, Hayden Ireland, Jr., Charlotte, North Carolina and James Lee Ireland, Fort Worth, Texas; two grandchildren, Hayden C. Ireland, III and Elizabeth Ireland Bothwell; five great-grandchildren, Hayden C. Ireland, IV, Colby Ireland, Laura Kate Ireland, Dillon Bothwell, and Annie Jude Bothwell; a brother, Gates McPhail, Jr.; and a number of beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; a sister, Martha Elizabeth Douglas; and two brothers, Preston B. McPhail and A. Miles McPhail.
