Joseph Madison Guyot, 76, died Friday, July 10, 1964, at his home in Douglass.
He was born August 26, 1887 in Douglass and was associated with the Guyot grocery store for 50 years. After working for his father, he bought the store and operated it for many years before selling it to his son.
He was married to Mildred Love, July 23, 1919 in Douglass. He was a World War I veteran, a member and elder of the Douglass Christian Church, a member of the Butler county draft board, on the board of trustees of the Copeland memorial library, and a past mayor, councilman and school board member.
He was also president of the Douglass Chamber of Commerce and comander of the American Legion. Mr. Guyot belonged to the Masonic AF and
AM #151 and the Order of the Eastern Star of Douglass and consistory of Wichita.
Survivors include his wife; 2 daughters, Mrs. James (Mabel) Taylor, Gila Bend, Ariz., and Mrs. RobertL.(Margaret) Wilson, Wichita; a son, Joe L. Guyot, Douglass; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Edythe Guyot, wife of his son James who was killed in World War II; a brother Arnold of Douglass; a sister, Mrs, Golda O'Connell, Long Beach, Calif.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 13, at the Douglass Christian church, Rev. Maurice Bigger officiating. Burial will be in the Douglass cemetery. Hilyard Funeral Home in charge.
