(*Note- headstone hard to read, initially appears to read dob 1888, however, after further investigation dob according to various census records is 1884.)
I spoke with my Mother, Eva's grand daughter about what Mrs. Eva died of, she was afterall 60 years old. My mother told me the following story, even though my mom was only 8 at the time, she said she can remember it as vividly as if it happened yesterday. This is my mother's words....
Granny (Eva Todd) had an enlarged heart and other heart disease, and had been told by numerous doctors what to and not to eat. On this day in 1944 my mom said she was visiting with her mother, Eva's daughter. Granny was living with Uncle "Bud" (Fred Todd), they had all left to run some sort of errand and Granny stayed behind... she said when they returned when you opened the door you could smell the country ham in the air... and when they walked into the kitchen, you could see the cast iron skillet and some ham left and the biscuits Granny had just made. When they called for her, they said she didn't answer, they found her in the bedroom, face down on a feather pillow. She had a heart attack but she didn't die from the heart attack, she died from suffocation, from laying face down in the pillow. My mother said Granny was a tiny little woman, who was feisty and full of life. Now we know why we lost her at the age of 60. RIP Granny. I love you!
