Husband of Martha Rucker (1866). Father of Jesse, Jennie, Rowena, Minnie, Emma and Annie Evers. Son of Thomas S. Evers and Elizabeth Hooker.

Evers was a real estate speculator and operated the first General Store in a settlement he named Shiloh. Later partnered with William Collins (also buried in Shiloh Cemetery). Operated the first cotton gin in west central Florida (1882). Moved his operations to a tract of land he bought near Shiloh when he learned that Henry Plant's railroad was going to bypass Shiloh. Named the new settlement "Plant City." Evers was a key figure in the history of Plant City and Hillsborough County. Evers St. in Plant City is named for him.

Died of yellow fever, 1884.

Mason

J.T. was the founder of Plant City. The residents of the area wanted to name the "new" town "Eversville", but J.T. insisted it be named after the railroad man Henry Plant. After his death, his influence on the area was buried to promote the "Collins" family as the founders of PC. He donated the two acres of land where Shiloh Cemetery is located ironically just two years before his death. If you would be kind enough to transfer his memorial to me, I will work to rebuild his reputation as a great person and friend to many.
