Post returns place him at Ft. Niagara and at Jefferson Barracks, Sackets Harbor, through 1862. The last I found was in Sept 1862 that includes the notation "sick." Under "US, Civil War Soldier's Records and Profiles" he is shown to have died of disease without specifying which it was. But the odd info is that it states at the bottom "POW, Exchanged for Chesty S. Coffey, 19 MS." This is clearly an error in Army records that has been added to his gravestone.
