Miss Mary Ann Ballard, 20, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Ballard of Douglas, met death last Thursday night, Sept. 29, 1938, on the highway about six miles south of Wheatland, when the car in which she was riding crashed into the rear of a truck. The truck's lights had gone out and the driver was in the process of setting up flares when the truck was hit. Mary Ann was born at Monrose, Kansas on June 15, 1918. She came to Douglas when a young girl with her parents. She had made her home here since that time, attending the grade schools and graduating from Converse County High School in 1936. She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Ballard and two brothers, Dale and Forrest. (Information was obtained from her obituary in the Douglas Budget Oct. 6, 1938 and mortuary records by Betty Alberts, FAG Member #47293729.)
