Ethel Rae "Mutt" Beard Barker, age 93, of Neches, Texas died Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at Sterling House Assisted Living in Palestine. Burial at Neches Cemetery is under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home of Palestine. She was born March 7, 1917 in Pert, Texas to Allen W. Holland and Effa Rhodes Holland. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Linda Sue Beard; husbands, Jesse Francis Beard, and J R Barker; brother, Lloyd Holland; sisters, Gladys Moore, and Elizabeth Grady. Mrs. Barker was a devoted and loving wife and caregiver to her husbands, a wonderful mother and grandmother, and a great cook and seamstress. Most of all, her life and her actions were a living example of one who loved the Lord. She was a member of the Church of Christ having worshipped with the Crockett Road congregation and more recently with the Frankston congregation. After working at home in the broiler industry for 23 years, she worked in food service for 12 years at the Neches High School. After retiring, each summer for five years, she attended the Archie Waldrum session of the Bandina Christian Youth Camp. Many will also remember her for her fried pies that were sold at Cannon's Country Store in Neches. She will be missed by all. She is survived by two daughters, Rae Roberson and husband Lamar; Kathleen Compton and husband Ed; step-daughter, Misty Ann Nunn; grandsons, Roger Carroll and wife Nicole; Brent Carroll and wife Ronda; step-grandchildren, Amanda Barker, Corty, Jaden, and Avery Nunn; great-grandchildren, Amy Trigg and husband Zac, Jerrod Carroll and wife Heather, Clay Carroll and wife Karissa, Clint Carroll, Lane Carroll, and Gracey Carroll; and six great-great grandchildren.
