She was born March 22, 1916 in Marseilles, IL, the daughter of George Edward and Estella Bernice (Gallaher) Ten Eyck.
She received a bachelor's degree in education and a master's degree in library science from the Kansas State Teacher's College in Emporia.
She was married to John Charles Hetzel on Jan. 26, 1942 in Emporia, Kansas. He preceded her in death in 1994.
She lived in rural Colony for 52 years, before moving to live with her daughter and husband in 2002.
Mrs. Hetzel was a high school English, speech and drama teacher, and a school librarian. She is remembered for her fine speech and drama programs. She retired from Crest High School, Colony, KS, in 1981.
She was a member of the Colony United Methodist Church, the Colony United Methodist Women, and the Forget Me Not Club.
A brother George Robert Ten Eyck, and a sister Delia Bernice Moore preceded her in death.
Services will be Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at Colony, KS, at the United Methodist Church. Private Family Inurnment at the Colony Cemetery will follow the service.
