CEDAR RAPIDS
__Ray G. (Popi) Atkins, 73, of 1417 Third St. NW, died Friday morning, April 26, 2002, in Mercy Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Turner West Funeral Home. Friends and relatives may visit from 3 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
__Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Verna; a sister, Joan Newkirk of Cedar Rapids; four daughters, Linda Koch and husband Tom of Ryan, Debbie Kleinendorst and husband Steve of Waverly, Terry Myers of Cedar Rapids and Chris Hutchins and husband Rich of Cedar Rapids; a son, Sam Atkins and wife Carisa of Columbia, Mo.; 14 grandchildren, Carly Remington and husband Shane, Tanya Epperson, Michelle, Sam and Nick Koch, Chris, Jenny and Sarah Bartels, Stacey, Steve and Kathy Myers, Zach and Kirsten Atkins and Jacob Hutchins; a great-grandchild, Grant Matthews; and many loved nieces and nephews.
__He was preceded in death by two daughters, Kathy Davies and Patti Epperson; a brother, Francis; and four sisters, Grace Makinster, Dorothy Allen, Nellie Twedell and Phyllis Higham.
__Ray resided in Cedar Rapids his entire life and worked in furniture sales for many years. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He will be remembered most for his giving nature, sense of humor and love of storytelling. He will be greatly missed.
