One brief hiatus, 12 Aug 1862 he enlisted in the Civil War, during which he served in Co.K the 124th Il. Volunteer Infantry. Among the numerous skirmishes the seige of Vicksburg MS. under the command of Gen'l Grant and engagement at Mobile, AL. under the command of Gen'l A.J. Smith. He mustered our 15 Aug 1865 in Vicksburg and returned home to again farm his fathers land.
On 13 Jan 1873 he married Elizabeth Prickett and they had girls Francis M.. Nevada Prickett and Clara Runyan.
