He was a member of Carmel F&AM No. 421, Murat Shrine, Indianapolis Scottish Rite and was past commander of Carmel VFW No. 1003. Survivors include two sons, William Dewar and Robert Dewar; three daughters, Sharon Vasquez, Karen Evans and Patti Hayew; three sisters, Hazel Ellis, Brenda Purvis and Doris Sampson; two brothers, David Dewar and Herman Dewar; his mother, Julia Dewar; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home in Plainfield. Burial was at White Lick Cemetery in Mooresville.
