DIED THIS MORNING
Pioneer Vessel Captain who Sailed Lakes for 35 Years, Succumbs
to Stroke of Paralysis at Home in this City
Capt. C.D. Christiansen, one of the pioneer vessel captains of the lakes, has sailed his last voyage with Death as the pilot. Capt. Christiansen passing away at his home, 311 North Sixth street, early today from effects of a stroke of paralysis which he suffered last Wednesday. Capt. Christiansen sailed the lakes for thirty five years, retiring three years ago. Born in Denmark, Sept. 24, 1845 Capt. Christiansen, who was 70 old at his death, came to Manitowoc in 1866 and soon after began his career as a vessel captain, sailing many different boats during his thirty five years on the lakes. He was well and favorably known among marine men and the news of his death will be received with regret. Capt. Christiansen is survived by his widow and one son, Charles P. Christiansen, who sailed with his father and later was captain of several boats. Six [grand] children and two great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be held from the late home Friday
afternoon, Rev. Smith officiating.
