Len M. Allen Died Suddenly: Buried Tuesday
The sudden death of Leonard Malcolm Allen last Saturday was a distinct shock to his friends in Corning and vicinity. No one knew that he was ailing and so the news of his death was a great surprise. Mr. Allen had spent Friday night in the Jo Peterson home near Nodaway. Saturday morning he had driven out to sell life insurance, returning to the Peterson home. He drove into the yard, parked his car and got into the back seat, presumably to rest and cool off. The family noticed him there and thought he might be asleep. After a time they became alarmed and went to the car and found that he was dead.
Leonard Malcolm Allen, son of Walter J. and Lydia Allen was born in Wyoming Valley, Wisconsin, October 1st, 1861. In 1871 when a small boy he came with his family to Corning, which has since been his home. Mr. Allen died July 8, 1939, aged 73 years, 9 months, and 7 days.
Mr. Allen was married to Coral Josephine Crow, June 19, 1889 and to this union one son, Loren was born. Both preceded him in death, Mrs. Allen, June 17, 1927 and Loren on March 29, 1926. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. A. A. Anderson of Decatur, Georgia, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Allen was a member of the Christian Science Church. from boyhood he associated with the business life of Corning. He was industrious and charitable and will be missed greatly by those who knew him best and appreciated his many good qualities.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 July 11, 1939 at the Thurman Allen residence near Corning. Reader, Mrs. J. R. Snoderly in charge. Burial was in the Walnut Grove Cemetery. Mrs. H. J. Trusty furnished musical numbers and pall bearers were Ivan Heaten, Bud Staples, H. F. Dunn, William Thomas, H. J. Trusty, and Martin Johnson.
