Edna Vernicia Smith was born April 9, 1912 in Clearview, OK to Andrew and Shulah Smith. Her parents, five siblings, one child, and two grandchildren preceeded her in death.

Early in life, Edna gave her life to Jesus Christ and joined the Vally Grove Baptist Church in Boley, OK.

After graduating from Boley High School, she met and married Simon Arbertha. To this union, six children were born. She attended Langston University and taught English.

Upon moving to OKC, she became a very loyal and faithful member of the Greater Shiloh Baptist Church and served as Sunday School Superintendent, WMU president, kitchen help, choir member and deaconess. Edna retired from Tinker AFB.

Edna went home to be with the Lord, April 21, 1995 from Presbyterian Hospital in OKC. She leaves to cherish the memory of her beautiful life, her husband of sixty years, Simon Arbertha, Sr; three daughters, Evelyn LaBrew, Shirley Durham and Bernadine Moss; two sons, James Arbertha and Simon Arbertha, Jr.; a devoted and loving sister, Helen Hayes; one uncle, Oscar Houston; sister-in-law, Mary Thurmond; brother-in-law, Sherman Arbertha; two sons-in-law, twenty grandchildren, thirty-two great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
