Special to the CITIZEN:

WILLCOX, Dec. 18. -

Lieutenant-Colonel Schofield, Sixth Cavalry, commanding post at Fort Apache, committed suicide on the morning of the 17th by shooting himself through the head. The ball entered his right eye and came out at the base of the skull. He has been suffering from ill health for the last three or four months, and it is supposed his mind was temporarily deranged at the time of the deed. No other cause is known. He left no writing to show his intentions or reasons.
