SPRINGFIELD Sylvia (Axler) Stein 83 of 30C Halifax Ct. died Friday at a local nursing home. She was born in Brooklyn, NY. and had been a resident of Springfield since 1931. She had worked at Hampden Furniture. Sylvia was a member of Kodimoh Synagogue and their sisterhood, Jewish Nursing Home of W.Mass. and the Springfield Jewish Community Center where she was also a long time volunteer. She was predeceased by her husband George Stein who died in 1995. Sylvia leaves two sons, Aaron (Eileen ) Stein of Potomac, MD., and Gary (Patti) Stein of Ft. Lauderdale, FL., a daughter Barbara (Bruce) Winer of Longmeadow, a brother Robert (Roberta) Axler of Longmeadow, a sister Arlene (Bernard) Dole of Ocala, FL., seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The funeral will be Sunday 12:30 PM at the Ascher-Zimmerman Funeral Home with burial in City of Homes Cemetery . Memorial observance will be Sunday and Monday with evening services at the home of Barbara and Bruce Winer, 111 Pendleton Lane, Longmeadow.
